| Material needed: [COLOR=Red] For Skin modifications : - Photoshop or GIMP - I'm using PhotoShop CS4 - - A .DDS plugin : -> for Photoshop : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] -> for GIMP : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] For Glow modification: - HxD and Hex editor :[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
- RF Crypter :[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] This RFCrypter Tool is a better version (less bugs and more user friendly than the Rfcrypt tool show in the Reskinning 101 tutorial. - BEFORE ANY MODIFICATIONS MAKE A BACKUP OF THE TOTAL RFOnline Folder (with all files) It will be your BACKUP source in case of anything wrong. If you dont have it, you may have to reinstall the game entirelly to have new original files.
Tutorial - How to find the right file you want to modify ? The first thing you need to know is what do you want to modify. Below are the paths where to find the differents files - Armors : C:\RFC\Character\Player\Tex - Weapons : C:\RFC\Item\Weapon\Tex - Shields : C:\RFC\Item\Shield\Tex - MAUS : C:\RFC\Character\Unit\Tex - Animus : C:\RFC\Character\Animus\Tex - Jetpack : C:\RFC\Item\Armor\Tex
When you're doing Reskins, you're modifying the Texture of the item. That's why we are looking into the \Tex folder every files. In most of the case, an item is defined by a Mesh file, defining the skeleton, and a texture applyied on this skeleton. That's why you will see also a mesh file in the same folder of the item.
Now how to recognise every item ? it depends, sometimes there is a logic in the names, allowing you to know which file correspond to which item. And sometimes no. So you will have to find by yourself the right file. The easier way is to cut the file and to paste it in another folder. Then log back in the game, and see if the texture disapeared. If the texture disapeared (Full white skeleton), then that mean you've find the right file. If nothing happend, paste the file back in the right place and do that again with another file.
Tutorial - Most usefull paths for main items - Armor 60 + : WHITET.RFS First letter = Race of armor - A = ACC - BF = Bell Female - BM = Bell Male - CF = Cora Female - CM = Cora Male 3rd letter = part of armor H = Head U = Upper L = Lower G = gloves S = Shoes Last number = Class 6 = Melee 4 = Launcher/Mage 0 = Ranger - Dragon Armor : DRAGONT.RFS - JetPack : AKT00.RFS (Normal Jetpack) WingT.RFS (Jetpack wings - only if you've applied the Wings jetpack patch) - Animus : HEANT : Hecate INANT : Innana ISANT : Isis PAANT : Paimon Shields : SHDACT = ACC Shields - Level 50 prot : ACCRETIA_ARMOR_LSHIELD_164 - Level 55 prot : ACCRETIA_ARMOR_LSHIELD_160 SHDBCT = CCC & BCC Shields - Level 50 prot : BELCOR_ARMOR_LSHIELD_076 - Level 55 prot : BELCOR_ARMOR_LSHIELD_169 ELFSHT01 - Elven Shield : COM_ARMOR_LSHIELD_170 - Elven Shield : COM_ARMOR_LSHIELD_171 Snow gun : WET00 - snow-gun Relics : Main weapons relics are on the WET00.RFS pack. Siege Kits : WET00 - Level 30 / 40 : ACCRETIA_WEAPON_SIEGEKITLC_001 - Level 50 : ACCRETIA_WEAPON_SIEGEKITLC_003 WET03 - Level 55 : ACCRETIA_WEAPON_SIEGEKITLC_060 WET12 - Level 60-65 : AW_SIEGEKIT_60LV
For the rest, im afraid you will have to find out by yourselve. Tutorial - How to Unpack RFS Files to modify each textures RF Crypter tool
Rf Crypter is a Tool made to Unpack and repack RFS/DDS files. This tool have been found on rfdev.com, a site which is no longer existing. All credits deserve for the developper of this tool. I dont intend to take any credit for this. Im just sharing this freeware because this tool was made to be shared between the RF community of developpers.
How to use this Tool : 1) Create a folder named RF Crypter 2) Copy the RFS file you want to unpack to the RF Crypter folder 3) Just drag and drop the RFS pack on the RF Crypter.exe tool [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 4) Wait for the software to finish its work
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 5) You will see a new folder appearing in your RF Crypter folder. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] This folder is named with the same name of the RFS file, but with RFX at the end. This folder contain every files which were on the RFS file. 6) Do the modification you want on files inside the RFX folder 7) Once you're done with every modification Delete the RFS file 9) Drag and drop the RFX folder to the RF Crypter.exe 10) the RF Crypter tool will repack every files and create a new RFS file. this Version doesn't OverWrite the previous RFS file, that's why you will need to delete the previous version of RFS file before compiling the RFX folder. In the same way, if you want to do the Unpacking RFS to RFX again, you will need to delete the RFX folder before using the RF Crypter tool.
I have used this tool for years now, to modify skins on RF Online Server. I don't know if that tool can be used for any other ways.
Again i have to thank the Developper of this tool, even if I don't know his name. Thank you for Helping the RF Dev community.
Tutorial - How to Modify DDS Files I will teach you how to modify the DDS files on Photoshop. If you're using GIMP, the way shall not be that different. 1) You have to install the Plugin DDS for Photoshop (or for GIMP). [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] 2) Then, extract the DDS from the RFS using the RFCrypter tool shown above. The DDS files are in the RFX folder made by the RFCrypter tool. 3) Open the DDS file with Photoshop. Do not choose the option "load flipped vertically". [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 4) The DDS is composed of 2 parts : - A picture of the main frame:
- A channel Alpha allowing to determined the effects on the items:

| FOR GLOW : Tutorial - How to modify Glows on weapons and armors ? In first I'm not Creating new Glows, this tutorial will say you how to change a glow by another one already existing. This require a bit of experience. The software used is HxD. An Hex Editor which will allow us to read the file and to modify it. The Glows are linked to an item in the database. We CAN'T ADD GLOWS to an ITEM Which DOESN'T HAVE A GLOW YET ! It's a database matter. All we can do is modifying glows of items which already have glows.
1) Every Glows are stored in the Chef folder : C:\RFC\Chef 2) The Files defining which Glows are linked to which items are in the Eff folder : C:\RFC\Chef\Eff
3) The Glows itselves are in the Tex Folder : C:\RFC\Chef\Tex
The tutorial below will explain you how to modify the .EFF file. 1) Open the .EFF with HxD 2) The file is written in Hexadecimal. In the Right panel the file is decrypted in normal language. 3) There are Rules to observe while modifying those files : - The File HAVE TO have the same size ! the number of line and column have to remain the same. - If you delete a bit, you will have to rewrite a bit. A Bit is a Bit ! Delete one => Create one. - It's not because you think there is a strange number in the Hexadecimal code that means that you can delete it. - Even if there are no "traduction" of every bit in Hexadecimal code in the Right panel, that doesn't mean that this bit isn't usefull. - This file is read by a software inside the RF Online. This software is reading parts of code, from one position (line:colum). If you change the position of the start of a line, then your file wont be read by the RF Online software and result in an error. 4) Position 1 : Surface Effects The position 00/03 is the start of the name of the file which will determine the effect applied on the surface of the item. The surface effect is the effect that you can see when you look how the light is reflecting on your armor (Mirror effect, metal effect, etc.). The best way to find which file to use is to see ingame the effect, then to find the corresponding file in the EFF folder. Then open the file and see the name of the file in use.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 5) Position 2 : Glows Effects The position 10/07 is the start of the name of the file which will determine the glow applied on the item. This glows is the effect that is issued from the item.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 6) Position 3 : Glow Characteristics - [1] Movement control The position 40/0D is the position of bits determining if the glow will move or not. '@' mean move, '=' mean not moving The position 40/0E is the position of bits determining the speed of the movement. '@' is the standard speed 40 is the standard speed 40 to 42 : the speed is increasing in the same time as you go higher. (41 is slower than 42)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 7) Position 4 : Glow Characteristics - [2] Type of Movements The position 50/03 is the position of the bits determining the TYPE characteristics of glows. For this one you will have to modify the value directly in the HEXADECIMAL window. -> 00 = no movement -> 01 = Vertical and horizontal movements ... it's a bit weird but it's up to you ._. -> 02 = Effect scrolling from left to right over the whole item. It's the effect used on armor 55 acc.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Save the file and put it in its original place in the RFOnline folder. 9) Launch the game to check your work. If you don't have any error while loading the game, then you have done a good job [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]. if you made a mistake about positions or file size, then an error (Critical error or Not response error) will appear.
GOOD LUCK. | |
